This course introduces students to some of the major issues involving fossil fuels. Taught by a geochemist, an economist, and a professor of education, it covers the geology of fossil-fuel formation and extraction, the economics of their use, and the cultural effects of fossil fuels’ increasing (and potentially decreasing) availability. The course ends with a week exploring the issue of possible drilling for natural gas in the Marcellus shale under central New York.
